About John Barrett

A certified financial manager, county finance officer, and municipal finance officer,John Barrett owns PM Consultants, LLC, in Brick, New Jersey. John Barrett’s consultancy services cover all aspects of government finance for counties and municipalities in the state, focusing on helping agencies operate at peak performance.

In this role, he draws on 12 years of experience as the director of finance and chief financial officer for Hamilton Township. New Jersey’s ninth-largest municipality, it had an annual budget of over $120 million that he was responsible for managing. He also oversaw Hamilton Township’s capital spending and issuance of notes and bonds. Moreover, he increased the fund balance from $80,000 to more than $10 million and fixed budget deficits that had been in existence for several years.

An alumnus of Queens College, City University of New York with an undergraduate degree in accounting, Mr. Barrett also studied at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy of Rutgers University. After his graduation, he accepted his first role in finance as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, Wachovia Securities.

He enjoys participating in various land and water activities outside of his professional obligations. In addition to swimming and surfing, he is fond of tennis and basketball. He also belongs to the Knights of Columbus and volunteers at church events.
