Volunteer Opportunities with the Alzheimer's

Based in Brick, New Jersey, John Barrett is a certified municipal finance officer, certified county finance officer, life and health insurance producer, and certified financial manager. John Barrett previously served with Hamilton County as the director of finance. Mr. Barrett is also a prolific volunteer and earned the Alzheimer's Association Central New Jersey Volunteer of the Year award.

A non-profit organization, the Alzheimer's Association is dedicated to fighting Alzheimer’s disease through research and prevention efforts, and provides a range of supportive resources to those suffering from the disease. The association operates numerous volunteer programs to further its mission.

Volunteers with the Alzheimer's Association are needed to help organize fundraisers such as the Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day, among other initiatives. They also work in their communities as virtual community educators who facilitate Alzheimer's Association learning programs, and as technical support volunteers to assist with the delivery of virtual programs.

Volunteers may also serve in their communities as early stage social engagement leaders who plan social activities for people living with Alzheimer’s, and as support group facilitators who lead public sessions aimed at helping them cope. In addition, volunteers serve in advocacy roles to support the rights of people who have Alzheimer’s, carrying out tasks such as contacting legislators in person or by correspondence.
